Description
Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. As Quality Manager, you will lead a team of quality professionals responsible for incoming, in-process and final quality inspections, with focus on technical quality standards and measurement systems. You will manage quality inspection operations for electronics, mechanical parts and semiconductors, implementing and maintaining inspection processes that meet IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, and GD&T (ASME Y14.5) requirements. You will be responsible for hiring, developing and coaching quality personnel while ensuring technical excellence in inspection methodologies.
Key job responsibilities
• Lead engineers and technicians within the inspection team, prioritizing work and addressing technical escalations related to measurement systems, inspection methodologies, and quality standards
• Oversee implementation and maintenance of technical quality standards (GD&T, IPC-A-610, J-STD-001) and measurement systems, including development of inspection procedures and acceptance criteria
• Own Material Review Board (MRB) processes, including technical evaluation of non-conforming material, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions
• Drive continuous improvement through Lean and 5S activities, measurement system analysis, and process capability improvements in the inspection areas
• Lead quality system activities including internal audits, document control, training programs, and quality metrics
• Support new product introduction and manufacturing transfer activities by establishing inspection criteria, qualifying measurement systems, and developing inspection work cells
• Partner with engineering teams to provide DFQ (Design for Quality) feedback on inspectability and manufacturing process capability, and implement advanced inspection technologies

This role is a people manager and is the quality leader for Kuiper's inspection center. This role must identify and solve problems within internal fulfillment and manufacturing operations while coaching teams and developing mechanisms to consistently deliver high-quality products.

Qualifications
• 5+ years direct management of Quality Inspection personnel in an Aerospace or Automotive manufacturing environment• 7+ years' experience with inspection processes within aviation/aerospace electronics
• Demonstrated expertise in GD&T (ASME Y14.5), IPC-A-610, and J-STD-001 standards
• Proficient in ISO 9001 / AS9100 / IATF 16949 requirements
• 5+ years' experience with quality concepts/tools/methods such as 8D, DOE, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Measurement Systems Analysis, SPC
• Experience using Lean Six Sigma tools for process improvement
Extended Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
• IPC Certified Trainer certification
• Experience with measurement systems analysis and advanced inspection equipment
• 5+ years' experience in technical problem solving and root cause analysis

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $104,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
